Terms & Conditions

Effective date: July 13, 2026

These Terms & Conditions (“terms”) govern your use of Hermes Sync (“we”, “us”) — the browser extension, web application, and related services (together, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@hermesync.me.

1. Acceptance of terms

Using Hermes Sync — signing in, installing the browser extension, or accessing the web dashboard — means you accept these terms. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

2. The service

Hermes Sync provides:

  • Bookmark sync across supported browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and other Chromium-based browsers) and devices, using either cloud sync or local file sync.
  • A reading list for saving links to read later, with folders and read/unread state.
  • A web dashboard at hermesync.me for browsing, searching, organizing, and exporting your bookmarks and reading list.

Cloud sync mode requires an account and an active subscription. Local file sync mode does not require an active subscription — bookmarks are written to a file you choose (for example, in a Dropbox or iCloud Drive folder) and are not sent to our servers.

3. Accounts

Cloud sync mode requires an account, created with email/password or Google Sign-In. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate account information.
  • Keep your credentials confidential — you're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
  • Use one account per person; accounts are not meant to be shared.

Contact us right away if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

4. Subscriptions & billing

Cloud sync features require an active subscription, billed through Stripe.

  • Free trial:new subscribers get a 7-day free trial, once per account. You won't be charged during the trial.
  • Plans: monthly and yearly billing options are available. Prices are shown at checkout.
  • Auto-renewal: subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless canceled.
  • Cancellation: you can cancel anytime from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep access until then, and you can resume your subscription before the period ends to keep it active without interruption.
  • Refunds: fees already paid for a billing period are generally non-refundable, except where required by applicable law.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or store or sync content that is illegal, infringing, or that you don't have the right to store.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the browser extension, web app, or API, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits it.
  • Attempt to bypass or disable authentication, subscription checks, or usage limits.
  • Overload, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' data.

The Service also enforces documented usage limits, which we may apply automatically:

  • Bookmarks: up to 10,000 per profile.
  • Sync profiles: up to 5 per account.
  • Devices: up to 10 per account.
  • Reading list items: up to 1,000 per profile.
  • Reading list folders: up to 25 per profile.

6. Your content & data

You own the bookmarks, reading list items, folders, and other content you sync through Hermes Sync (“your content”). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the Service — for example, syncing it across your devices.

We handle your content as described in our Privacy Policy: deleted bookmarks are hidden immediately, retained as deletion records for 30 days (to propagate deletions across your devices), then permanently removed by an automatic cleanup. You can export your bookmarks (as HTML or JSON) from the web dashboard at any time.

7. Service availability & changes

We work to keep Hermes Sync available and reliable, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service, or any specific uptime. We may add, change, or remove features over time. Where a change would materially reduce the Service's functionality for existing subscribers, we'll provide reasonable notice.

8. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Where feasible, we'll give you the opportunity to export your data first, consistent with our Privacy Policy's data deletion and retention terms.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Hermes Sync syncs copies of your bookmarks between your browsers and our servers — it is not a substitute for your own backups. We recommend keeping independent copies of anything important.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Hermes Sync and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or revenue, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

11. Changes to these terms

When we make material changes to these terms, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify you by email or through a notice on the site or in the app. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's place of establishment.
